Camping World in Dallas, Texas - Very Shoddy Workmanship

On July 10, we went to the Camping World in Kingston, NY, as we were having electrical issues with the passenger side of our 2004 Fleetwood Expedition motorhome. They determined that the problem was the four house batteries were bad. After talking to the service manager, at his suggestion, we went to Sam's and bought 4 golf cart batteries and then took them back to the Camping World to have the batteries installed. We paid $226.84 on Friday for the installation of the batteries. We left Camping World with the electric working correctly and were very happy. Two hours after getting back to our campground, the power on the passenger side of the coach went off again. We were really upset. We had just spent all that money and we did not have our full electric service. We called Camping World, and they told us they were too busy to check our unit on Saturday, so we were back early on Monday morning. After checking out the batteries, we were told that they must have been incorrect that the golf cart batteries would work, and suggested we use the batteries sold by Camping World, as they were "stronger" and would solve the problem. The Golf Cart batteries were taken out, and while we took them back to Sam's, the service department installed four of the Camping World batteries. After paying an additional $660.92 for batteries, we left with the electricity working. Our next stop on our trip was Wells. Maine, and early Tuesday morning, we were on the road again. For our first three days in Wells, we had full electric in our coach. On day four, everything on the passenger side of the coach went out again. We decided that it had to be an electrical problem in our coach and would live with electric in half our coach. The refrigerator runs on propane gas, and we arranged other things to run off power on the driver side of the coach. We continued our travels in Maine, Massachusetts, and back to upstate New York to Niagara Falls. All this time, we are managing without electricity in half our coach, in spite of being plugged into 50 amp shore power at every campground. On August 20, while we were at Golden Hill State Park, on Lake Ontario with our frustration over this whole electric problem mounting, my husband called Fleetwood Motorhomes Customer Service for help with the problem. He worked for two days with a service tech, checking the invertor lights to make sure that the problem with not with the convertor. It was determined that the convertor was ok. The Fleetwood tech was at a loss as to what the problem was. After my husband got off the phone with the tech, he was out looking at the battery bay, just kind of scratching his head, trying to determine what could be wrong. Our neighbor came over and asked what the problem was. We explained the problem and the history, including two sets of new batteries. To our delight, the neighbor was a retired electrical engineer. He got his voltage tester out and they began checking the batteries. All of them were fully charged. However, he noticed that the terminals were all loose and many had corrosion on them. My husband called the service tech at Fleetwood he had been talking to and it was determined the dirty connections and the loose connections were most likely our problem. My husband and the neighbor spent the whole morning cleaning the connections and tightening them down. The invertor circuit breaker, inside the motorhome had been tripped, both the service tech and our neighbor agreed that the most likely cause was the loose wires bouncing around and touching one another during the drive most likely shorted the invertor circuit causing more problems. The circuit was reset and amazingly enough, the power came on in the whole coach. I cannot begin to tell you how pissed-off we were when we realized that all of this could have been prevented if the techs at the Camping World in Kingston had done their job right. The corrosion on the connectors was obvious, they we green with it. They installed two sets of batteries; you would think they would have noticed it at least once. Then to not tighten the bolts to holding the connectors to the battery terminals, this is totally inexcusable, shoddy workmanship. We have contacted the store about reinburseent for the labor and have been totally ignired, I would never recommend the service department at any Camping World, based on our experience. Camping World - Great experience in Mesa

4.3

Purchased My 2016 Thor Challenger. Sales associate Ted H was great. Finance and closing was a breeze. Service dept as a whole is top notch. from customer service view. Understand that at times there is a high volume of work being done. Had a lot of warranty work completed. water tank valve went bad, due to that my water pump failed which in turn hurt the water heater. the over the air antenna failed to come down. The overhead bunk needed an adjustment. This is stuff that should have been caught by THOR Quality Assurance or their suppliers. I did my walk through everything was fine this all happened 10 days after being on the road. My service team went above and beyond. Don not tell any one they made a house call. 4.5 out 5 stars because everyone needs to strive for perfection.

Camping World and their false advertising

1.0
Details
Camping World has false advertising on their products. They will send you an email with an advertised price, then when you make a purchase they will charge you more and will not refund you on thier advertised salle price. this is bad business and I would avoid them at all cost's. this is bad business and false advertising. We used to call this, "the old hook and bait trick" Not cool, especially since customer service would not resolve this for me. I will be expecting a full refund and will not purchase from them anymore. I can recomend you do the same so you don't fall into the same bait and switch routine that i did. What a terrible business practice this is. i'm sorry for all ther future customers.

I too found this to be true. Took my fifth-wheel with an error code on the refrigerator.

They said it was "toast" and needed to be replaced. The service advisor gave me three different quotes with the high being $2,200. I told him I would check prices further. In looking on the CW website it was on sale for $1,397 so I called him back and he gave me the run around.

Finally, he asked the service manager and it was approved but took over 30 days to get it in the shop. After installation and taking it home and set up the refrigerator showed a different error code. Called service mgr and to his credit he sent a tech to the unit that day only to learn that this unit was also bad and they would have order another new unit. I had to be out of town so I took the unit back to CW and when I returned a couple of weeks later I called the service dept three times but was transferred to a voice mail each time.

I went to CW only to learn the service advisor had transferred to another CW. The service advisor I was assigned to told me the new refrigerator hadn't even been ordered. To date I am still waiting.

Another reviewer cited the disorganization of CW.

I concur. I think Marcus Leonis needs to drop "The Profit" show where he rescues failing companies and rescue his own company.

Camping World in Wappingers Falls, New York - SUCKS!

1.7
Details
We purchased a 2015 JAYCO Bungalow Aug. 22/15. from Campers world of Kingston New York. Had some problems, been trying to get someone to come and service the unit. FOR GET IT ! it's going on 6 weeks and nothing but BS, service manager never answers phone, no one seams to know whats going on, I have to repeat over and over to everybody I speak with what the problem is. The camper had a crack in the kitchen sink, crack in the bathroom faucet, leaks under the sink(I had to fix myself) Leaking shower,(Still trying to fix myself) warped bedroom door, missing burner on the stove, (They could have giving me one from another camper as mine was obviously taken for another camper) missing ice bucket, slider door that won't close correctly, They must think my problems are trivial and not too important. Thank God we didn't have major problems! I will never buy ANYTHING from campers World again, not even a gallon of RV anti freeze and I pass them on my way to where the camper is . I will go out of my way to buy somewhere else. STAY AWAY OR, YOU TO WILL BECOME A VICTIM!

Camping World - 2015 Forest River Rockwood Roo Review from *** Iowa

2.3
Details
We bought a 2015 Roo in May 2015 saying this is what was gonna be the best we cld do for a Traverse to pull, says it sleeps 6 but in reality it sleeps 4 cause the dining room table folds down for a small child only but the salesman at the cedar falls, Iowa store said my 13 yr old would fit on it just fine, ya if she likes to sleep in the fetal position! Than we were told that the bank approved us but we had to have "extra" insurance in order to qualify for the loan, $4,000 worth! We were happy at the time so we signed all the paperwork, 1st time taking it out it poured rain& the canvas leaked & the water filter broke off, they had us bring it in& they kept it for a couple days to tell us that once the thread in the canvas gets wet it will swell& fill in at the stitches, ok fine! While there picking it up we seen a 2016 mini light that was perfect& our vehicle wld be able to pull it& they said that want us to be happy& if we wanted to trade in the Roo they wld make it work! Never less to say ours depreciated after using it once& we were gonna have to come up with $5,000 down & lose out $10,000 on out on our Roo! The bank said the added insurance we had on there took away from the value of our Roo & we shld cancel it, camping world was not happy we were cancelling it& said we only wanted to cancel cause we Clint get the 2016! BS! 2 months later they reimbursed us $1300 & said the other is nonrefundable!! WHAT!?! Least to be said if we want to be happy we lose $10,000! Very dissatisfied!

Toy Hauler falls short: Wondering if Camping World will follow through with anything.

Our experience with Camping World in Buffalo, New York went from great (buying a Toy hauler and truck from Sarah in December 2014 that was within our budget), to very disappointing (bought it to hold two bikes and in April 2015 it was determined it won’t- had to cancel May trip) to a series of frustrations- long delays, lack of communication from management and inactions from May 2015 to now. We had hoped after much dissatisfaction with our experience when we met with the new manager Tim and the regional manager Ron end of August 2015 that things would be different. We believed them when they said they would “take care of us” as the unit did not fit our needs. (What exactly does “we’ll take care of you” mean in the RV world??). The words (and the end result) of the leadership team still ring in our ears: • “We’ll make it right” (we’ll find an RV that fits your needs…really? when?). • “We’ll make the numbers work” (Running the numbers on an RV twice the price doesn’t remotely work.) • “Give us a list of things that are wrong (with existing RV) and we’ll take care of it” (does that mean “don’t call us, we may call you or we may ignore it all”) Some of the items on the list to fix were quite small (such as the hole for the bathroom pipe is large and you can see through to the ground and a screw missing on a part on the outside of the RV) yet nothing was “authorized” to be fixed on the list. Our Honda and Toyota dealers in Hamburg are so responsive- they service the vehicles as described and call us when it’s completed. Is this less than pleasant overall experience with Camping World typical of RV dealers or unique to this facility? Given that the store manager hasn’t returned our last call from several weeks ago, our next step is to get back in touch with Ron the Regional Manager. We hope he will be more responsive.
