Camping World in Charleston, South Carolina - Inept, inadequate, and sub-standard repairs and customer service

1.0
Details

Update by user Dec 19, 2016

I forgot to add that when we got our unit back there were multiple spots that had been damaged. An outlet that they weren't even working on was shattered, and the front bumper step into the engine compartment was broaden and needed replacing.

Original review posted by user Dec 18, 2016

My husband and I live in Charleston but purchased a class C Coachmen from out of town because Camping World is not a Coachmen dealer, and Coachmen had the floor plan we wanted. However, Camping World said they are a Coachmen Warranty Service Center and could handle our in or out of warranty needs. Good news, right? Well we had a major leak right out of the gate with this unit, so we took it to Camping World for repairs, along with a list of 20+ other, mostly minor, warranty items - like punch list items. Camping World has a good face up front; the service representative assigned to us did a walk through with us, took notes, and assured us she would see our repairs through from start to finish. However, 2 months later we still didn't have our unit, and I received no communication from our service rep - I had to call several times for an update and was told they were waiting on parts. We needed it for a planned travel, so they got 9 of the items done, including the leak repair which they say involved peeling back the rubber roof, re-glueing and re-sealing it. They said Forest River (Coachmen) had sent the wrong parts for the remainder of the items, which was not true as you will see later in this story. We picked up the unit to go on our trip and Camping World said they would call when the items were in. We went on our trip and on the way home, on the highway, the entire front half of the rubber roof peeled back off the unit! My husband had to duct tape it down, stopping every half hour or so to re-tape, in order to get us home. We took the unit back to Camping World and a month later we still didn't have our unit, and Camping World said that Forest River said the original roof repair as well as this one would not be covered. Camping World also claimed that Forest River AGAIN sent the wrong parts. This led me to contact Forest River, who told me the date they received the order for parts from Camping World, which was 3 months after I had dropped the unit off! Also, they weren't refusing to cover the leak repair, only the 2nd issue of the roof peeling back because they considered that to be Camping World's fault. We talked with Camping World again, in person, and funny thing - the parts guy admitted to not having ordered the parts until 3 months after we dropped it off! Gave me a sob story about how swamped he was, as if that was my problem! We had to hire an attorney to get Forest River and Camping World to fix this, as well as all our other items on the list; and even then they took over another month and constant follow up on our part to get the work done. We finally picked the unit up nearly 5 months after this all started, and half the punch list items were still not done. However, at that point we just wanted to get our unit away from Camping World. We will never deal with Camping World of Charleston again, for any reason; not even to buy toilet chemicals!

Camping World - Customer Care Review

I feel bad for anyone who has had a bad experience with this company. Here in Byron Georgia the staff have been the best. Everyone has went above and beyond to help us. The service department are absolutely hand down the best any where Not happy we paid a lot more then internet said. But it is what it is but absolutely no one nor the service has been bad I hope Mr Marcus knows what a special group of wonderful people he has working here And yes we had the same experience in Richmond Indiana and yes I'd buy another camper from them

Will never deal with this company again! Called our local store (Dothan, Al) to get a replacement in motion satellite, was told to call there 800 number and maybe they could locate the unit I was looking for. The unit was replaced with a newer model and I ordered the newer model and they sent the wrong one, a stationary model when I ask for an in motion. Now the local store and the 800 customer service (what a joke) will not exchange the unit because it is an electrical part. So I had to order the upgrade kit from Lazy Days Rv. But beware they screwed up and won't stand behind there customers! The customer service representative advised me to cal Winegard and tel them it was defective! I did call Winegard and told them this, I will not lie to cover up there mistakes. This company is a joke! Michael Kissinger

Camping World in Meridian, Idaho - Very disappointed with service dept

2.1
Details
I tried to buy a new trailer from Camping World in Boise/Meridian ID in May. I intended to pay cash. I was basically blown off because they didn't have the particular trailer in stock. I traveled to SE Idaho (more than 200 mi) to buy a new one. On our first camping trip little things didn't work. So we told the local Camping World and were told that they were to busy to get to it before our next trip in July. We took it on the second trip where the refrigerator among other things failed. We have been put off several times when we asked when it would be completed. They have had our trailer since August and continue to give us the run-around. We are still waiting to get it back. I was told that we would get a call at each stage of the repair. (This was after I was passed off to the desk supervisor who admitted that the service person assigned to us has obviously made some CYA entries in the computer). The last time I went in (a month ago) I was told that they were planning to call me that day, (They had difficulty finding my file while I stood there), and that they were waiting for a fender skirt and they would call as soon as it came in. That was more than a month ago. No matter what I do I have not been able to get my trailer back. The service department has had my trailer on their lot for more months that I had it home. I paid cash for the trailer and I am so frustrated with Camping World that I need someone above the local store level to get something done or I want my money back. POC: Michael F. Camping World - How long to repair ?

I have had my camper at Camping World in Arden since October 13 for a leak in the front window of my 2014 Autumn Ridge. I ask them to see if the factory would pay for this after several weeks I called them and she said she was going to call me with no results. I have had to call them they never called me 2 months later I am still waiting. I never thought this would happen to me not sure what is next. I have been told they have order the parts after I called the service department just wish they would be in contact and update me on the problems.

Do it, like I did- picked it up and made an appointment at another dealer. Not worth the trouble.

Somewhere else it would be repaired already.

Trust me in that. Does not take much to be better than them.

Camping world Avondale Arizona

This has been the worst experience. Camping world Mesa posted a Class C Rv. I was interested and called for information being that I lived three hours away. I was told that the vehicle had leveling jacks and was also told that they would replace the dinette with sofa at no cost to me. They transferred the RV to Avondale, which is closer to me. When I arrived we did a walk through. There were no jacks which I was told were on it. The sofa could not be exchanged for the dinette because of floor vents. That was told to me after I was told the jacks were not on it. I was told they would split the cost of the jacks and said my part was $3,000 dollars for the automatic controlled. They changed it to the joystick control which cost $3,100 in their catalog page 185- so much for 1/2. Then they over charged for the AZ licensure fees. Which is 60% of the original base minus 16.25 per year used then times 2.8. on a brand new rig with a base price of 100,000 you would have to pay 2.8% for 60,000 which is $1,680, I was being charged 1,999 for a 6 year old class c. watch the bottom line with Camping world Avondale.

I'm starting to get a little concerned about the Avondale store telling that the PDI is $2495 for used vehicle, isn't that kinda high?

We purchased a new-to-us 5er from the Springfield, MO this past season. Because of the hitch weight of the 5er, we needed to add Air Bags. The Parts department got the part in to take care of the needed suspension requirement. First issue, the part was installed. But then when we were to pay the bill, it was priced $150 over catalog price. That was settled after several go arounds. Today, second issue, I learned from my truck dealership that the brake line was crimped as a result of the installation of the air bag. I am certain that I am stuck with the bill from their careless work ethics. Continuing to learn that Camping World might be a good retail store; but not a service provider. Very disturbed with at least Camping World, Springfield, MO.

Camping World - After the purchase, then what?

Details
I made a purchase 2 weeks ago of a new 5th wheel from Camping World of Wood Village, Oregon. At purchase, it was agreed that they would install a 5th wheel sliding hitch on my 2017 Ford PU. I drove an hour (2 hours round trip) to be there to get the hitch installed and after 4 hours, the service dept. advised that they had the wrong part and had to order a new one. I was also advised that they could not find the keys to the new 5th wheel that I had purchased. Went back the next week after they stated that the part would be there. After arriving at 8 AM, was advised that it was on the UPS truck and would arrive between 10 and noon. The truck arrived at noon and at 2 pm, they again advised me that they had the wrong part. I left and arrived several days later at 9 am after being told that the part did arrive At noon, they advised that again they had the wrong part and that they found out that since my Ford was a new model with an aluminum bed, that the necessary part had yet to be produced and wouldn't be produced until mid Dec. It would be until January before they would be able to receive and install it. So after 6 total hours of driving back and forth and waiting in their waiting room for a total of 14 plus hours, no 5th wheel hitch. The general manager then talked with me and advised that they would pay a driver to deliver it to my residence storage area for me for me at no charge the following week. He also advised that they would winterize the 5th wheel. I was called Friday by the general manager again and stated that he was arranging for the delivery the following week. Monday I had not received a call, so I called and left 2 messages for the general manager to call. No call. I called back on Tuesday ) and talked with him. He advised that he got too busy to call me back, but that he was able to arrange a driver and that driver was supposed to have called me. By the way, I still haven't been advised if they had indeed winterized the unit and cold weather is supposed to arrive soon. I was thrilled with the purchase, but since the purchase I feel that I have been treated EXTREMELY poorly. I have kept all my conversations on a civil level, but am extremely surprised that a company as large as Camping World has so little respect for their customers after they make a purchase that they would treat me this way. Camping World should be making all the arrangements with people for me and keeping me informed, which they have not.

It is January 5, 2017 and Camping World still doesn't have the part. Called yesterday and they advised that Reese is now producing the part and I should be getting it around 1-11-17.

WOW, 2 months after I bought the 5th wheel.

Will be waiting to see if the part comes in as stated. Still no apology from Camping World's general manager, he evidently is too busy to get in touch with me.

Camping World Service Department

Had them install satellite with predetermined cost. Asked service rep to have tech. Use leftover caulk for any spots on roof that might need filling. (I was already charged $14 for caulk used to install satellite. A tube of caulk cost half that anywhere else.) They charged me $220 to caulk 3 small areas on roof! On top of that, the tech. wired the 12 volt sat. wire to the kitchen lights which required me to have the lights on in order to have power to the sat. switch. Ripped off and poor quality work. As a matter of fact, service rep told me a month earlier that roof inspections were always included when an rv is winterized, which I had them do. So why was it necessary to fill any cracks when the sat was installed? The service reps never smile, act like you are a bother rather than a valued customer and appear to dislike their job...great place to do business. Lol

So without making this review extremely long winded, I bought a used 2015 Forest River 31 ft motor home Class C from Swedesboro location in March. Traded in a perfectly good 12 year old Gulfstream Motor home with literally no problems. The new motor home was not serviced correctly and I wound up with a leaky roof and a refrigerator that did not work. They delivered it to me a month later with a leaky roof, lights falling out of the ceiling, refrigerator parts broken and a litany of other problems that I didn't find until I actually used it on a trip to Florida. Several visits later (3) I still did not get satisfaction. All they did was put bandaids on the unit to make it look good. Had to eventually take it to the Lakewood location to get things right. It cost me nearly $1000.00 even with my extended warranty to fix it. Believe it or not the refrigerator still needs service from the Lakewood location, but that's another story entirely. So if you want a good deal on a unit go to Swedesboro, but don't return to their service. It's awful. My grandchildren could do a better job of repairs.
